We worked a full day today, starting with site supervising at a different house than normal with Eric, and then Joe joined us later, because he didn't end up getting any volunteers. We got there around 7:30am and the volunteers arrived around 9:30am, a crew of 4 girls and 2 guys from Tulane University's Alpha Phi Omega. It was fun to finally work with people our age, or at least I consider them my age, and actually told them that it's strange that I just graduated, because I feel like they are all older than me, to which one of the guys said "did you just graduate from high school?" Hahahaha I was like "umm, no, college...do I really look THAT young?!" It was funny, mostly because everyone down south seems to think I am about 16 years old (which is how old I feel!) while everyone back home always thinks I am older than I really am...so strange. Anyways, we did lots of mudding in the house and it was such a change from working with senior citizens that we just about ran out of work for them to do! After work, we volunteered at another Cirque Dreams show at the theatre, which was fun as always. I got to scan tickets again, this time with my friend Mitch, who is hilarious, so the time went by really quickly! We are working a double of the show tomorrow, so I will stay and finally watch the whole show :)
I skyped with Heather tonight! Woooo! Got to see her, benny boy, and their awesome new apartment! Heather informed me that she just changed her license plates to Nova Scotia plates...bye bye Maine plates :( which is really bittersweet to me! She also informed me that she just got a nannying job for a 4 year old girl, yayyy for finding a job and finally making money! Gah, all my friends are growing up and moving all over the place, its crazy! I can't wait til Christmas time when I will hopefully get to see all of my friends and family back home!
We found out that our next SPIKE project is going to be working with Habitat For Humanity in Biloxi, Mississippi, starting October 25-December 20 something. We are pretty excited, because we will be staying at Camp Victor, where we have already stayed once while we worked with Habitat on the Gulf Coast earlier this year. I am also excited because Nate is going to come visit me during Thanksgiving break! Yayyy! My team is really excited to meet him and I told them that he likes to cook, so they are hoping that he can be our Thanksgiving meal chef :) haha
Another random observation I have made lately is that children here play outside ALL THE TIME! It's not like back home where kids are practically forced to go outside and play every once in awhile, but they actually want to play outside...our street is filled with happy, laughing children every time we get back from work, and it's actually quite refreshing. Also, I don't think anyone here works, because every time we take a break from work and go outside for some fresh air, all of our neighbors are outside too, just hangin out, drinking beers, smoking, and chatting with each other...interesting.
Well thats my update for now! Love and miss y'all!
Hey sweetie....Biloxi, eh?! Must be nice to finally know the next assignment. Do you think you'll ever get to Alabama (or Ababama...haha), so you can check that off your list of states?
ReplyDeleteYay for Nate being able to visit (execept I guess that means he won't be joining us for Thanksgiving)! I bet he'll whip you up a good ole New England Thanksgiving.
Heather a nanny--that's perfect for her! We know where she got all her practice. Haha. And look how good my boys turned out. :)
I am glad you finally get to see the Cirque show. That's quite a perk.
BIG hugs and kisses from Maine. Love and miss you, ~mama
