AmeriHalloween

First of all, here is a picture of my new Nike sneakers:
This has been a really long week, not in a bad way, it has just felt like we have all been here for way longer than a week! Time goes by a lot slower when you aren't doing physical building work, I guess!
Yesterday was the National "Make A Difference Day," so we went to the Jackson Zoo and volunteered for the morning. My team worked with some local volunteers to clear all the vines off of the fence around the zoo...it was crazy how many there were and how entwined they were in the actual fence!
This is the overwhelming first sight we had of the fence we had to clear!
And here is a picture of how well we did with the 3 hours we had!
I was so proud of our group for doing such a great job clearing the poison ivy-infested fence! (We were literally pulling poison ivy off of the fence with our hands, but we had gloves on and washed with Technu afterwards and so far I have no signs of it, thank goodness!) It was a fun day to go help out the community, but it was pretty hot out and we were all exhausted afterwards! We had the whole afternoon after lunch to roam around the zoo for free! It was pretty fun to look at all the animals, so here are some pictures of my favorites :)
We also had an AmeriCorps Halloween party the other night, where I changed costumes numerous times...I started out as a "gangsta"
Then went on to a Cupcake costume that I purchased at Wal*Mart (last time I will ever do that!) so it didn't actually look anything like it did on the package! Ahh it was so bad, I no one knew what I was and asked if I had made it myself, that's how bad it looked!
So one of my friends said he would switch Halloween costumes with me for awhile....which was hilarious! Not only did he look ridiculous in the cupcake costume, but I also was freaked out by how much I really resembled a man in his cowboy costume...I looked a lot like Kid Rock or Brett Michaels haha
Anyways, it was a fun night, but I really prefer to just be myself and wear my own normal clothes I think!
This morning a few friends and I went to Brunch at Waffle House, a southern favorite. Three of the six people there had not been before, so it was quite a treat. I got chocolate milk, a chocolate chip waffle, and scrambled eggs...yummmy :) It was pretty delicious and definitely filled me up! After that, we came back to clean and pack up our red backpacks for our next round projects that we are leaving for tomorrow morning! My team is headed to Biloxi, Mississippi, which is about a 3-4 hour drive. I love roadtrips in the team van, because we usually listen to my ipod and I get to sing along to the songs for everyone...some people enjoy it more than others (the people sleeping probably don't enjoy it haha).

  1. Ahhhhhh...I never mailed you a care package, and you're leaving tomorrow! MY BADDDDDD!! So, I guess I still send to the Vicksburg address--even once you're in Biloxi?! I will try to get right on that. :(
I like allllllll your Halloween costumes! I've got to say, though, that weird as it is, I think the cupcake costume looks more like a cupcake on your friend. What's up witht that?! You make one tough looking cowchick, too.
I love the zoo photos. Monkeys, elephants, and a giraffe...me, Aleena, and YOU!
    Love youuuuuu, ~mama
